CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

Due to the nature of the Exchange Program, there is currently a strict selection criteria.
This is due to the nature of the training and who it is ideally suitable for. The program is not designed as kendo tourism,
so not suitable for younger members as these are initially Universities, hence the age range.
Please find following the criteria for application:

The basic criteria for consideration to be accepted on the program is:
1. Be over 18 years old
2. Be under 30 years
3. Have the grade of Nidan and above
4. Have a grade no higher the 5th Dan
5. Be a FULL or STUDENT member of the British Kendo Association (NOT Associate, Temporary or Junior)
6. Have a high fitness level
7. A willingness to undergo assessments of fitness, character and kendo ability

PLEASE NOTE: While this outlines the basic criteria, the venues available may not be limited to this criteria, so it is important to check the venues on the website before selecting them on your application form.
Be aware that you will undergo an assessment for all venues.

Process of selection

One:
Please read through the various details contained on this website. That includes the Terms and Conditions for the program.

Two:
Select the venue you are interested to attend.
Check to see if the venue’s criteria is suitable for you. Then do your research on the venue. It’s training methods, kendo levels, location etc.

Three:
Click through using the “Apply Now” button to the Application Forms and other resources.

Four:
Once your application has been received, it will be reviewed, and if you are suitable, you will be contacted and the process of assessment will start. This process could take 2 to 3 months to complete, so if you are on a deadline, please build this time frame into your plans.
Therefore it is advised to book flights and accommodation (if not part of the venue’s offer) after you have been assessed and given the go-ahead.

Five:
Once Four above has been cleared, book flights, accommodation, insurances etc and get ready for your kendo experience.
